David Maljković – Forthcoming

Biography

Born in 1973, in Rijeka, Croatia, David Maljkovic bases his practice on the recomposition and rearrangement of his earlier works into new ones that within the exhibition context take form in site-specific installations. The consequent creation, in aesthetic terms, of new and unexpected relations between content and form, allow the artist to obfuscate hierarchies between media and artworks and to investigate the erosion of memory, the corruption of information and the effects of time and technology on human ideas. It is within this multi-faceted relationships that Maljković negotiates his formal methods and disjunctive intentions, authorizing the viewer to create his/her own narratives and multiple, even conflicting, interpretations of the artworks and the whole exhibition. Narration, although it is often only present in a concealed way, and the questioning of the studio space, as well as the living space and the city space, play central roles in the artist research. Driving the investigation to the border between architecture, painting and sculpture, Maljkovic practice takes the shape of two- and three-dimensional works of different medium: prints on canvas or archival cardboard, wooden, plexiglas and plastic structures, films, photographs and collages.
