Isabella Ducrot – Il Miracoloso

Biography

Isabella Ducrot (1931, Naples, Italy) is an artist and writer with a career spanning four decades. Through numerous trips, especially to the East, she has developed a particular interest in the textile products from these countries east of Europe: the textile traditions in China, India, Turkey, and Central Asia have become subjects of study and research. Over the years, she has built a collection of rare, historically significant fabrics, which in turn sparked an artistic research project involving the use of textile material to create artworks. The textile material serves as a constant starting point, within boundaries of ambiguity, exploring chromatic research and the violation of the textile structure itself. From this emerges her "talking textile structures, of miraculous beauty and fragility." Whether on an intimate scale or on a grand scale, her work reflects a fascination with repetition, shape, and color. Ducrot's work was recently featured in a solo exhibition, Profusion, at the Le Consortium Museum in Dijon, and her installation Big Aura was presented at the Dior Haute Couture SS 2024 show at the Musée Rodin in Paris. She has held several solo exhibitions at venues including Petzel Gallery in New York, Gisela Capitain in Cologne, Sadie Coles in London, T293 in Rome, and Standard in Oslo. Her works are part of numerous public collections, including the Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo, the Cranford Collection in London, EMMA – the Museum of Modern Art in Espoo, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, Le Consortium in Dijon, MAMCO in Geneva, MAXXI – the National Museum of the 21st Century Arts in Rome, the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Ludovico Corrao in Gibellina, and the Munch Museum in Oslo. Isabella Ducrot lives and works in Rome.
